HP has added two new models to its iPAQ ranger, the Voice Messenger and the Data Messenger.
The two phones are both based on Windows Mobile 6.1, but designed to cater to different markets, with the Voice Messenger targeted at users who require a phone first, and the Data Messenger aimed at those looking for mobile internet access.
This difference manifests itself in a 2.8in touchscreen display and slide out keyboard on the Data Messenger, as opposed to a standard 2.4in screen and 20-key keypad on the Voice Messeneger.
Beneath the screen the two share the same specification, offering quad-band GSM, UMTS, HSDPA, GPS, a 3.1 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
One particularly interesting feature of the new iPAQs is HP's decision to dump a physical navigation button for an optical sensor that tracks your thumb movement and allows you to "glide" through menus.
The smartphones will be available from November, unlocked or on a Vodafone contract. An unlocked Voice Messenger will cost around £333, with the Data Messenger coming in at £399.
